Rinse the pearl barley under cold water.
Place dried porcini mushrooms in a bowl and cover with hot water. Let them soak for at least 20 minutes until softened. Reserve the soaking liquid and chop the mushrooms.
In a large pot, bring the broth to a simmer. Add the rinsed pearl barley and the chopped soaked mushrooms. If using, carefully add the strained mushroom soaking liquid.
Simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the pearl barley is tender.
If using onion and carrot, sauté them in a separate pan with a little oil until softened, then add them to the pot with the barley and mushrooms.
Add the diced or shredded duck meat to the pot and heat through for 5-10 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

- 🥕 Sautéing a little chopped onion and carrot before adding other ingredients builds a delicious base for your soup. Veggie power! 💪
- 🍲 This soup tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together. Make a big batch and enjoy leftovers! 😋
- 🌿 A dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of fresh dill/parsley right before serving takes this soup to the next level. Fancy schmancy! 😉
